Da Nang wakes up early. By six the beach is full of swimmers and the noodle stalls are already on their second pot. By nine the heat is building and the cafés of An Thượng are filling with travelers who slept in. Both are great breakfasts. They just happen at different hours.
We run a breakfast café in An Thượng, so yes, we have an opinion. This guide still starts on the street, because a trip to Da Nang without a bowl of mì Quảng is a trip half done.
How to choose your breakfast in Da Nang
Pick by mood and by the clock:
- Up before 7:00 and hungry for something local: a street stall or a neighborhood noodle shop. Fast, cheap, mostly cash.
- Beach first, food after: swim at My Khe, then walk about ten minutes inland to An Thượng for coffee and eggs.
- Slow morning, long table, good coffee: a brunch café. Plan for 45 minutes to an hour.
- Working, or traveling with kids: a café with an English menu, friendly staff and dishes kids actually finish.
The local breakfast: what to order
Vietnamese breakfast is savory, warm and quick. These are the dishes you will see all over Da Nang:
- Mì Quảng. The signature noodle of this region: wide turmeric rice noodles, a shallow pour of rich broth, pork, shrimp or chicken, peanuts, fresh herbs and a sesame rice cracker you break over the top. Typically around 25,000 to 50,000 VND.
- Bún chả cá. Rice noodle soup with Da Nang's famous fish cakes, pumpkin and a clear, gently sweet broth. Light and perfect on a hot morning.
- Bánh mì. The baguette sandwich with pâté, cold cuts, pickles, herbs and chili. Often 15,000 to 30,000 VND from a cart.
- Xôi. Sticky rice with savory toppings, wrapped to go. Ideal for a beach walk.
- Cà phê sữa đá. Strong drip coffee over condensed milk and ice. The fuel of the city.
Prices are rough 2026 ranges and vary by stall. Most street stalls take cash only, and many sell out by 9:00 or 10:00, so go early.
The brunch side of town: An Thượng
An Thượng is the grid of streets between My Khe Beach and Ngũ Hành Sơn road. Many travelers stay here, and it has the densest cluster of cafés in the city serving eggs, avocado toast, smoothie bowls and espresso. Our An Thượng guide covers the whole neighborhood.
A great brunch café here gets three things right: proper eggs (soft poached, never rubbery), fruit that tastes like this week's harvest, and coffee in both styles, Vietnamese and espresso. If a place nails those, the rest usually follows.
What to order at Oh la la!
Our kitchen opens at 08:00 every day. On a first visit, the plate most guests photograph is the Avocado Eggs Benedict (130,000 VND), with bacon if you like. Properly hungry? The English Breakfast (145,000 VND) is the full plate. Early birds get the Breakfast Combo: toast and a fresh juice for 99,000 VND, served 08:00 to 10:30 only.
To drink, try an egg coffee (whipped yolk over robusta), a salt coffee, or go straight for a mango smoothie bowl if the day is already hot. Our egg coffee guide explains why it is worth the hype.
Then ask for a ticket and spin the prize wheel. Every spin wins something: a cookie, a juice, a coffee, a dessert, and now and then an Oh la la! t-shirt.
Tips for breakfast in Da Nang

- Carry some cash. Street stalls are cash. Many cafés also accept QR bank transfer.
- Read recent reviews. On Google Maps, sort by newest. Thousands of reviews plus fresh photos beat an old star rating.
- Use Grab. Motorbike and car rides around the beach area are quick and cheap.
- Respect the heat. From late morning in summer, sit in the shade and order something cold.
The easy beach breakfast plan
Swim at My Khe while the sea is calm and the sun is low. Dry off, walk inland through An Thượng, and order coffee first, food second. Our breakfast near My Khe Beach guide has the full sunrise plan, and the 3-day Da Nang itinerary shows how to build whole days around a good morning.
